In 2025, Le Havre celebrates the 20th anniversary of its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This distinction highlights the reconstruction of the city after the Second World War and the visionary architecture of Auguste Perret. With cultural events, exhibitions and shows, this anniversary year is the perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover this Norman jewel.

A unique modernist heritage

Listed in 2005, Le Havre is an outstanding example of urban reconstruction. After the destruction of 1944, Auguste Perret redesigned the city using reinforced concrete, creating clean, functional lines. The Saint-Joseph church, with its 107-metre lantern tower, symbolises this renewal and architectural innovation.

Exhibitions and architectural walks

To mark this anniversary, Le Havre is honouring the legacy of Auguste Perret with a flagship exhibition. Visitors will be able to delve into the history of reconstruction and discover the techniques that left their mark on the city. At the same time, guided walks will reveal the secrets of the rebuilt buildings, highlighting little-known details of Le Havre’s architecture.

Light shows and entertainment

Throughout the year, light shows will be transforming the city’s iconic sites. The Volcan, the Bassin du Commerce and other monuments will be sublimated by projections and artistic installations. These night-time events will offer a new perspective on the architecture of Le Havre and will amaze young and old alike.

The people of Le Havre at the heart of the celebrations

Local residents are invited to join the anniversary celebrations through a participatory project. A collective exhibition will showcase their photographs of the city’s architectural and maritime heritage. This project highlights the warm identity of the city and celebrates the bond between Le Havre and its residents.
