In 2025, the city of Caen in Normandy celebrates its millennium. The celebrations will kick off in style from the 20th to 23rd March 2025 with a spectacular inauguration at Caen Castle. The ramparts will be the backdrop for monumental projections illuminating the history of the city. Fire shows and a wide range of events will enhance the opening, promising wonder and discovery for all visitors. This spectacular launch will set the tone for the rest of the year.

From the 21st to 28th March 2025, the History Days will highlight Caen’s 1,000 years of heritage. Historical re-enactments, exhibitions and conferences will be held in emblematic sites such as the Château de Caen, the Abbaye-aux-Dames and the Abbaye-aux-Hommes. This will be a unique opportunity to explore the city’s roots and relive the major stages in its history. History buffs will find a wealth of fascinating information.

On the 9th May 2025, a major urban parade will take to the streets of Caen. Combining local talent and international companies, this event will tell the story of the city in a poetic and visual way. With costumes, performances and creative installations, this parade promises to be one of the highlights of the celebrations. The streets of Caen will come alive in a festive and colourful atmosphere that will amaze young and old alike.

From the 27th to 29th June 2025, Caen will be celebrating its historic link with the sea with a maritime weekend. The port will play host to 48 traditional and modern ships. Concerts, screenings and nautical events will take place on the Presqu’île and Bassin Saint-Pierre. A festive and cultural experience for all the family. The weekend will also be an opportunity to sample local maritime specialities.

From the 19th to 21st September 2025, Swedish company Cirkus Cirkör will be presenting a unique aquatic show in the Bassin Saint-Pierre. Combining acrobatics, artistic performances and light installations, this show promises an immersive and unforgettable experience, highlighting the alliance between culture and innovation. This exceptional event will combine modernity and poetry in an enchanting setting.

To round off this memorable year, a trail of illuminated works will be installed in Caen city centre in December 2025. The project will showcase the city’s architectural heritage while celebrating its status as a UNESCO ‘Creative City of Digital Arts’. A magical atmosphere will envelop the city to mark the end of the festivities in style.
